6 THINGS TO KNOW WHO PLAN TO PLAY GOLF IN SPAIN
Spain as a golf destination (out of Europe) has never been at the top of the bucket list for golfers, because Scotland or Ireland always prevailed as the favourite European destination. But since the last years, more and more golfers are looking to this maravellous country close to the Mediterranean sea.
If you are planning a golf trip to Spain, you need to know in advance what are you going to encounter:
1.- Spain’s famous “Costa del Golf” represents one of the biggest golf clusters in Europe and hosts some of the most recognized and prestigious venues in Europe. That means you will find all types of “golf trips” designed according to your taste: golf courses, accommodation, leaisure plans, restaurants, luxury services…
2.- Nice weather is a requisite for a golfer, specially when they travel because of golf. In Spain we enjoy the four seasons, not like in the Caribbean, but we have sun all year round at the Canary Islands and a mild and nice weather almost all year in the coast of the Mediterranean sea: Costa del Sol, Murcia and Comunidad Valenciana
3.-Spanish people are know for their hospitality and cheerfulness. Some visitors say we are noisy and try to get too close because we give two kisses when we say hello to somebody, but that’s part of our charm. If you come acrossvany single problem, people will likely help you even if they don´t know fantastic English.
4.-Spain has an incredibly strong culinary tradition, with century-old restaurants that are preserving history. But there’s also a vanguard here that makes the food scene so exciting. In the north of Spain, in the basque country, is one of the finest foodie destination with its almost 40 Michelin stars. And although many Michelin starred restaurants can be pretty expensive, those in the Basque Country tend to cost much less than in other places in the world. A one star restaurant will usually run around 45-60 € per person and 3 stars usually between 100-200€.
5.-There is an ample variety in golf courses. There are 349 golf courses as for today. Spain has some of the finest golf courses on the continent having already hosted plenty of tour events and even the Ryder Cup in real Club de Golf Valderrama in Costa del Sol. Some incredible courses could be El Saler, PGA Catalunya (Stadium), Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, FincaCortesin or Son Gual.
6.- If you have permanent residence in a non-EU country you have tax free shopping so you can save a lot of money when you go to buy new golf shoes, clubs or clothes.
